Trip to Michael’s!

Standard

Looking at foam shapes for the tennis shoe craft

Today my mom and I went to Michael’s for about 30 minutes to go shopping for supplies needed for the crafts. We bought tons of plain white t-shirts for the tie-dying and we bought some paint and other supplies needed for the whale and the tennis shoe crafts. Our total was $224! The sales associate asked what the supplies were for and I mentioned it was for a VBS. After she heard that she gave us a 20% discount on our total order!! My project facilitator said “God’s favor is always a blessing!”

Working on the tennis shoe craft for the Jonah VBS

Standard

I cut out 40 tennis shoes for this craft!

Tonight I worked on cutting out my tennis shoes for my craft!! My hands are very sore!! It was all worth it though. I cut out the stensils for the craft and then punched holes in all of the shoes to make way for the laces. I spent an hour and a half just cutting alone!! I hope the kids enjoy this craft! I’m so excited to do crafts like this because it will be a fun and easy way to communicate my point without having to use many words, considering the language barrier. It’ll be a neat way to bond with the kids and learn on what to do for next time.

Time for tie dye and Lesson 3!

Standard

Yesterday (June 26th) I worked on tie-dying some t-shirts as practice for the lesson. I bought four shirts at the store and just started working on different designs to experiment on how I wanted to create them when we’re actually down in Bolivia. I spent about 20 minutes figuring out the designs for the ones I was practicing on. Then my mom helped me out by buying some more dye for the actual trip! Now I’m prepared to create any kind of tie-dyed t-shirt!

I also created Lesson 3 while I worked on my t shirts that talked about God’s compassion. The t shirts are incorporated with the lesson because I’m going to try and tie dye a heart for the object lesson. I spent 30 minutes working on this lesson.

Working on the Whale!

Standard

On Monday (June 25th) I worked on my second craft for my second lesson. I used a paper bag and created it to look like a whale! It was a very cute craft, and it really symbolized the main point of my second lesson. I worked on it for about 30 minutes because I had to paint it and include the time it took to dry!

Meeting with Pastor James

Standard

This Sunday (June 24th) I met with Pastor James at church for about 15 minutes. I showed him the binder with all the lessons and crafts I have so far. He said he was really impressed and thought that my ideas were off to a good start! He really enjoyed my shoe and fishing pole props and said my lessons had some very good ideas and points in them. It was a good meeting with my facilitator! Also at this meeting I handed out the lyrics to my songs for worship to the rest of my team. Hopefully they’ll take them home and drill the words into their heads!!
