- Last night (June 6th) I had another meeting with my project faciliators. I gave Tiffany and James my lesson plans and ideas and they gave me some tips and pointers on how to make the lessons more appropriate for every age group. I also showed Tiffany some craft ideas that I had, which included a whale that the kids could decorate and then fill with candy, similar to a pinata. Another idea that I was thinking of was for the older kids to tie-dye. Some other ideas for the younger kids were cutouts of whales that they could draw on and use foam to decorate it themselves. We decided together that we were going to take the songs I have planned and use them incorporated with the drama our team has prepared for the trip. I am going to take the two songs I have and burn them onto CDs for the entire team to learn them in Spanish. This will be good for the drama as well so I can really tie in every aspect of the story of Jonah.

Jonah VBS
For my mini VBS to my mission trip to Bolivia, I decided to use the story of Jonah. I decided to use this story because it has object lessons that appeal to all ages. On my trip I will be working at two orphanages with varying ages of kids. The story of Jonah exemplifies a God who gives us second chances. All of these kids at the orphanages have been given a second chance after being rescued off the streets from a life of drugs and prostitution.
To get started, on Tuesday May 29 2012, I read the story of Jonah using my life application Bible. I spent thirty minutes reading the story. I realized how valuable the lessons are in the book of Jonah and decided to name my project “God of Second Chances.”
On Wednesday, May 30th, I met with Pastor James and his wife Tiffany, my project facilitators. We discussed the theme of the VBS, how I would create the object lessons, what kinds of crafts and music I would need, and if I would need any help acquiring any supplies for my project. We met for thirty minutes. We set up our next meeting for Wednesday, June 6th. I am supposed to present to Pastor James the object lessons that I have created: one for the boy’s home, one for the girl’s home, and the other for the Sunday morning service.
On June 3rd, I began to work on my object lessons to show my project facilitators. I spent thirty minutes gathering my material and information. I decided to pick out three main points from the suggested readings in my Bible to help guide my lessons. They described different characteristics of the story of Jonah as a whole which helped me decide exactly what to write about.
Welcome to my blog!
Welcome to my blog for my Senior Project! I will be creating a Vacation Bible School on an upcoming mission trip to Santa Cruz Bolivia in July. On this mission trip we will serve two orphanages called Operation Restoration. The goal is to get children and teens off the streets and into the homes and restore lives. The VBS will include object lessons, worship, and arts and crafts.
I have chosen this product because I have a passion for ministry and serving others. I also have a passion for the Spanish ministry and language, as well as other cultures. I feel as though this project will help me better understand people and help me realize the impact I can have on people’s lives. I have been on this mission trip for the past two years, and I am excited to go on my third trip. I have always enjoyed this trip, and it has been life-changing in so many ways. I wanted to create this product because I have a heart that is willing to serve, and I would like to leave my mark on these children and teens lives.
I have created this blog to document a school project, and I will observe the school district’s Acceptable Use Policy for electronic media.
